“I don’t want to disclose the position, but I asked for a salary of RM3,000,” she wrote.
A Malaysian jobseeker has expressed frustration after she was denied a RM3,000 salary due to a six-month employment gap, despite having more than four years of work experience.
The woman revealed that she had attended a job interview in Shah Alam, where she requested a monthly salary of RM3,000 — an amount she felt was reasonable given her experience.
However, she claimed in her Threads post that her request was rejected because of the six-month career gap.
“I don’t want to disclose the position, but I asked for a salary of RM3,000,” she wrote.
“You know what they said? Because I had a 6-month employment gap, they didn’t want to give me that amount.
“I have over 4 years of experience, but all you focus on is that gap?!” she added, expressing disbelief over the decision.
The story quickly gained traction online, with many users voicing their frustration and calling out what they described as toxic hiring practices.
One commenter, @notlisted412, said they would have ended the interview immediately.
“If it were me, I’d say thank you for your time, but clearly your company doesn’t meet my requirements. Thank you.”
Another user, @useraksy, questioned the relevance of employment gaps altogether, saying:
“Your career gap is irrelevant. They should just hire based on your four years of work experience.”
Others shared that this was not an isolated case. @maira_rashid added:
“Yep, this happens a lot nowadays, based on my experience.”
