Namewee releases ‘Very Shuai’ from police remand amid Taiwan influencer murder probe in KL
MALAYSIAN rapper Namewee released a new song titled “Very Shuai” (Very Handsome) on Spotify while being held in police remand as part of an ongoing murder investigation into the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yun Hsi.
The 42-year-old artist, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, is currently detained for six days to assist police investigations following Hsieh’s death at a Kuala Lumpur hotel room on October 22.
According to China Press, the track was released on November 5 — the same day Namewee surrendered himself to authorities.
However, the song is reportedly an old demo originally recorded in 2014.
The publication noted that Namewee had announced the song’s release before becoming implicated in the investigation, suggesting the track had been scheduled for release in advance rather than being a deliberate move by the rapper while in detention.
Hsieh Yun Hsi was found dead in a Kuala Lumpur hotel room on October 22.
Following the discovery, Namewee was arrested for alleged possession and use of drugs but was released after pleading not guilty to the drug-related charges at the Jalan Duta Court on October 24.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus stated that Namewee was the last person seen with Hsieh before her death.
The case, initially classified as a sudden death, has since been reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code following the discovery of suspicious elements during the investigation.
Namewee, known for his controversial music and social commentary, is being held to assist police with their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding Hsieh’s death.
The six-day remand order allows authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident as they gather evidence and statements related to the case.
