A lecturer shares her experience after students failed to repay fees, refusing a new request and reminding others to set boundaries when helping others.

A lecturer’s recent viral post has served as a reminder that while it is commendable to lend a helping hand, it is equally important to ensure that doing so does not come at one’s own expense.

The educator revealed that the parent of a current student recently contacted her, asking for financial assistance to pay a programme fee.

This request brought back memories of a similar incident a few years ago when she paid the fees in advance for two students, only to receive neither repayment nor gratitude.

“Imagine, I helped cover their fees for two semesters, and up until now, they have acted as if nothing happened. They even blocked me,” she claimed in the viral Threads post.

The lecturer further revealed that both students have since graduated and are currently employed, yet she has faced difficulties contacting them regarding the outstanding debt.

According to a screenshot of the recent exchange, the parent requested that the lecturer pay the fees upfront, promising to reimburse her once their salary was credited.

The lecturer declined the request, stating she was unable to do so. Fortunately, the parent did not pursue the matter further following the initial rejection.

The post quickly gained traction online and resonated with many Threads users.

Readers commended the lecturer for standing her ground and encouraged her to prioritise her own financial well-being when faced with such requests.
