Officemates exploited a colleague’s car for free lunch rides to save fuel, prompting her to fast rather than continue being taken for granted.

A CAR that was meant for personal use gradually became a shared lunch vehicle, with passengers leaving rubbish behind and expecting the owner to continue driving.

A Threads user has raised concerns after claiming her colleagues had relied on her car for a year because they did not want to use their own vehicles.

The original post was shared by a user who described how her car had become the default transport for lunch outings.

According to the post, her colleagues avoided using their own cars due to fuel costs, while she was left responsible for driving, dealing with parking difficulties and cleaning up afterwards.

The user later added: “Okay guys, from now on I’m just going to fast. I’m exhausted from driving and then having to look for parking, while they sit comfortably scrolling through Threads in the passenger seats.”

The post prompted many users to share suggestions on setting clearer boundaries instead of continuing the arrangement.

Several advised changing lunch routines, bringing food from home or simply refusing to provide regular rides.

One user stated: “Go to lunch spots that don’t require a car. If they invite you, just say you’ll take your own car or suggest getting a ride and splitting the fare. Don’t be overly nice without setting boundaries, sis.”

Another netizen commented that the easiest solution was to stop offering rides altogether, saying the owner should “be firm” and protect her own peace.

Some users shared similar experiences.

One person explained that colleagues had previously waited for their vehicle before leaving for meals, but the situation changed after they started using a different mode of transport.

A separate commenter highlighted that the issue was not only about transport but also respect, stating: “Please stop being such a pushover. Be direct and firm about what you will and won’t tolerate, because that is your car.”

Others suggested practical approaches, including quietly bringing meals to work or telling colleagues to take turns using their own vehicles.

“Stop being nice. Just bring your own lunch to work,” one user advised.
