Passengers in crowded LRT train called out for placing bags on empty seat

A crowded LRT ride sparked backlash after passengers placed bags on empty seats, prompting debate over courtesy and commuter etiquette in Malaysia.

WHEN taking public transport, it is important to show courtesy and consideration towards fellow passengers. Unfortunately, not everyone abides by these basic social norms.

A recent incident on an LRT train highlighted this issue after a couple of passengers were seen placing their belongings on an empty seat despite the train being crowded.

“Some people are just so selfish,” a Malaysian woman wrote in a Reddit post.

According to her post, the incident took place on an LRT train travelling along the Kelana Jaya line. She further alleged that the passengers smiled and did not bother to move their bags from the vacant seat.

In the comments section, the woman explained that she chose not to confront the passengers, fearing the situation might escalate into an argument or physical altercation.

While many netizens shared her frustration over the inconsiderate behaviour, others suggested that speaking up politely might have resolved the situation.

“You can just speak up and tell them. I’ve done it a few times — I don’t recall anyone ignoring me or reacting hostilely,” one user commented.

Others advised the woman to report similar incidents to the authorities in future, with one user recalling how their own report was handled promptly and effectively.
