Seeing the situation, the teacher offered to buy the student a Maths exercise book — costing just RM1.50.
A simple act of kindness by a Malaysian teacher has touched the hearts of many online.
The teacher shared in a Threads post that one of her Indian students had been attending Maths lessons without an exercise book, instead writing her work on loose pieces of paper.
Suspecting that the child’s parents may not have received their salary yet, the teacher noted that school assistance would only be distributed the following week.
Seeing the situation, the teacher offered to buy the student a Maths exercise book — costing just RM1.50.
The student hesitated at first, asking if it was really okay. After being reassured, she went to buy the book, but returned saying she would pay the teacher back the next day.
When the teacher gently refused, the student became emotional and repeatedly thanked her.
“When she came back, she said, “I’ll give you the money tomorrow.” I told her, “No need.”
“She became emotional and kept saying thank you. I just said, “It’s okay, no worries.”
“We don’t always know their hardships,” the teacher wrote.
“So we help in the ways we can.”
The teacher’s post also resonated with many educators and parents, who shared similar experiences in the comments.
One teacher wrote that she always keeps spare exercise books on hand for certain students, intentionally purchasing them for those in need, adding that the students appreciate the gesture and that it brings her happiness as well.
Another parent thanked the teacher for her kindness, saying she could deeply relate to the situation.
“I can feel her, cause my children had to wait for my salary just to buy books. But thank god this year my boss offered to help and he refused to deduct from my salary.”
