KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet will have a special meeting this Saturday to discuss the country’s long term economic policy direction based on the Shared Prosperity Vision 2021-2030.
The Economic Affairs Ministry in a statement yesterday said the Shared Prosperity Vision represented Malaysia’s hope and new agenda which was the basis for uniting the country.
It was previously announced by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pix) when tabling the mid-term review of the 11th Malaysia plan (11MP) last October and its basic framework was explained during the Keynote Address of the First-Year Anniversary of the Pakatan Harapan Government on May 9.
The aim of this vision is that all Malaysians are able to attain a decent standard of living by 2030.
It encompasses the 12th and 13th Malaysia Plans (12MP, 13MP) and as such, the government’s budget during this period will be aligned with the Shared Prosperity Vision.
The Budget 2020 to be tabled next month will be a preparatory budget to enable all parties to be ready when the 12MP initiative begins in 2021, the ministry said.
The 10 years targeted to realise this vision needs the strategic cooperation and participation of not just the government, but all stakeholders, including state governments, local governments, the private sector, government-linked companies and academia, non-governmental organisations as well as all Malaysians.
The Ministry said this new vision also shows the government’s commitment to restructure the Malaysian economy to ensure that it continues to expand sustainably, while the prosperity is enjoyed by all. — Bernama
