Johnny Depp recalls his ‘blissful’ years with Vanessa Paradis and their children in Tokyo interview, while discussing his artistic career comeback.
TOKYO: Johnny Depp described his life with former partner Vanessa Paradis as “bliss” during an interview with AFP on Thursday.
The US actor said he has “nothing but incredible memories” from his years with the French singer and their two children.
“Vanessa was doing her shows, you know, various tours. I got to be just daddy for a while,” the 62-year-old said in Tokyo.
Depp referenced Paradis’ record title when he stated “Hence the title of her record ‘Bliss’. It was bliss.”
The couple were together from 1998 to 2012 and share two children.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star’s brief marriage to Amber Heard ended in 2017 and generated significant media attention.
He lost a 2020 libel case against The Sun newspaper after it called him a “wife beater,” though he denied any violence.
Depp was successful in a subsequent defamation trial in the United States two years later.
The actor lost his role in the “Fantastic Beasts” series but made a comeback with “Jeanne du Barry” which opened the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
He spoke to AFP at the opening of his art exhibition in Tokyo featuring decades of his artwork.
“Acting is a form of expression, music certainly the same, and painting, drawing, creating something,” Depp told a news conference.
“I find that that is the one true, constant necessity that I must have. Otherwise my brain will explode.”
His debut art collection “Friends and Heroes” in Britain sold out within hours in 2022.
Media reports indicated Depp made £3 million and sold 780 prints through Castle Fine Art’s galleries.
“I don’t claim to be anything other than at most someone who paints. I am not even a painter really,” he said. – AFP
