Lotus’s Malaysia teams up with NGOs for flood relief effort

Lotus’s Malaysia delivers hygiene aid worth RM80,000 for victims

WHEN floods strike, access to basic hygiene often becomes one of the first challenges facing displaced families.

Recognising this urgent need, Lotus’s Malaysia has mobilised its resources and people through a #KitakanJiran flood relief activation focused on delivering essential hygiene aid to affected communities.

The initiative brought together around 50 volunteers from Lotus’s Malaysia’s head office and stores, who gathered to pack 800 hygiene care kits for families impacted by the flood.

The activation reflects a targeted approach to disaster response, addressing gaps that are often overlooked during large-scale relief efforts.

To ensure effective and timely distribution, Lotus’s Malaysia partnered with two experienced humanitarian organisations, Malaysia Relief Agency (MRA) and Global Ehsan Relief (GER), both of which have long-standing involvement in flood relief operations across the country.

“For this purpose, we are working with NGOs, particularly those who are experts in flood relief activities, and we’ve chosen to work with MRA as well as GER,” said Lotus’s Malaysia corporate services executive director Azliza Azmel.

“These two are experts, as they have a strong network on the ground. This will ensure that our operations will be safe, coordinated and safely distributed,” she added.

Each hygiene care kit contains 21 essential items, designed to support a family of five, particularly those relocated to relief centres. Items include towels and necessary bodily care products to help families maintain hygiene and dignity during displacement.

“There are about 50 volunteers today to help pack 800 boxes of hygiene kits. Each of the boxes is about RM100 worth, so there is an investment of about RM80,000 for this particular purpose,” Azliza said.

Distribution of the hygiene kits will be handled by MRA and GER teams, based on real-time assessments and guidance from authorities. The aid will be channelled to flood-affected families in Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Selangor.

“MRA has been one of the main NGOs involved in flood relief in the country for many, many years. Lotus’s Malaysia has discovered that and contacted us and offered their assistance.

“This is how the collaboration came about,” MRA Selangor chairperson Sharifah Nor Syed Mohamad told theSun.

She added that the hygiene kits will be sent to beneficiaries in at least four states, ensuring support reaches communities most affected by flooding.

From an on-ground perspective, hygiene support plays a critical role once initial emergency aid is in place.

GER project executive Nur Amni highlighted that many flood victims have already received food assistance, making hygiene supplies the next pressing need.

“Most of the flood victims have received a lot of help from temporary evacuation centres.

“So the most important thing that the flood victims need is a hygiene kit because it’s difficult for them to go out to the shops to buy personal hygiene supplies,” Amni said.

Beyond the immediate relief effort, the activation reinforces Lotus’s Malaysia’s long-standing commitment under the #KitakanJiran spirit to supporting communities during times of crisis.

“The message we want to give to our communities is that Lotus’s is always here by your side. We’ll always ensure we’ll be there in times of need. We are proactive, ready and able to act immediately,” Azliza said.
