JOHOR BARU: The Johor Education Department has embarked on several initiatives, including e-learning, to ensure students in the state can continue with their education during enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO).
State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said the e-learning involved various platforms, including Google Classroom and other social media applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, YouTube and Zoom.
“Other initiatives include offline learning, involving the use of textbooks, teachers’ notes, reference books and worksheets provided by teachers; learning using broadcasting mediums such as Johor FM radio, which is conducted daily from 12.30pm in collaboration with RTM Johor and learning through TV Education, which is run by the Ministry of Education,“ he said in his daily live announcement on Covid-19 through Makmur Johor Facebook today.
Vidyananthan said MCO, enforced since March 18 and had been extended until April 14, resulted in the closure of 1,187 primary and secondary schools in Johor and involved 580,000 students and 59,000 teachers and support staff.
The closure also affected 71 private schools and 1,473 private childcare centres , involving 90,000 students, teachers and staff, he added.
Meanwhile, Vidyananthan, said the state government has set up a temporary shelter at Kem Wawasan Bina Negara Gunung Pulai, near Kulai, for the homeless. It will be managed by the Social Welfare Department.
Apart from that, he said, 15 quarantine stations have been activated in the state.
On public compliance to MCO, he said, it has improved to 97.19% yesterday, from 96.69% the previous day.
He called for cooperation from all quarters to ensure full compliance to the MCO to break the chain of Covid-19 infection in the country. — Bernama
