SUBANG JAYA: The media plays an important role in helping to foster unity among Malaysians, Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari said on Wednesday night.
He said the media was a crucial instrument in efforts to disseminate positive news in addition to helping to cultivate a sense of harmony among the people.
Amirudin, who was speaking at the Invest Selangor Bhd Media Appreciation Night at the Dorsett Grand Subang, said it was thus the role of media owners to ensure accuracy and balance in their reports, while taking into consideration the religious and racial sensitivities and economic conditions of the nation.
He commended the print, electronic and online media for having played a positive role in promoting economic growth in Malaysia, including Selangor.
He said the media could continue to play an important role in promoting Industrial Revolution 4.0 through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms.
Amirudin added that it was irrefutable that a close relationship between the Selangor state government and the media must be continued.
“Although we have different responsibilities, our main goal is still the same, which is to build a nation that is peaceful and bountiful. The Selangor government will always be open to accepting views from the media to ensure developments are implemented for the sake of the state’s progress,” he added.
At the event, Sun Media Corporation Sdn Bhd was presented the award in Invest Selangor Bhd Media Partner category. Executive director Ching Chun Keat received the award on behalf of Sun Media Corporation.
