MALACCA: The Ministry of Primary Industries has called on ministries as well as government agencies involved in the development of people’s housing projects particularly the poor people’s housing project (PPRT) to use the kenaf-based Industrialised Building System (IBS) technology.

Its Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said besides having a much lower cost and able to shorten the construction time, the kenaf-based building materials could also absorb heat.

“We at the ministry level through the National Kenaf and Tobacco Board (LKTN) are ready to work with any other ministries or government agencies to expand the use of the commodity in building more PPRT houses.

“Kenaf can also bring added value to owners as it can make their house more comfortable,” he told reporters at the Bicara Kenaf programme at Kampung Solok Punggai in Ayer Molek here today. — Bernama
