KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (BSMM) is strengthening disaster preparedness ahead of the northeast monsoon through enhanced coordination with government agencies, corporate partners and volunteers.

BSMM national chairperson Tunku Temenggong of Kedah Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah emphasised that collaboration is crucial as no single organisation can manage disaster response alone.

Speaking at a donation handover by Nestlé Malaysia, she stressed that joint efforts ensure timely aid reaches those in greatest need.

Nestlé Malaysia contributed 5,500 boxes of food aid to flood-prone states including Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Kedah, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.

BSMM has mobilised logistics assets, volunteers and emergency supplies including hygiene kits, blankets and equipment as part of its readiness plan.

The monsoon season is expected to begin in early November.

BSMM secretary-general Datuk Danial Iskandar Abdul Rahman said the organisation is working closely with NADMA and other partners to ensure swift and effective response. – Bernama
