PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Transport is enhancing public transport operations to ensure smooth movement of the public and international delegates during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur from October 26 to 28.

Rapid KL will extend train operations during peak hours, increase service frequency, deploy additional staff at major stations, and step up operational monitoring throughout the period.

This initiative aligns with the MADANI Government’s efforts to provide a more convenient, efficient and agile public transport system consistent with the Malaysia MADANI concept.

The improvements also aim to encourage public transport use following phased road diversions and dispersal measures along several key routes into and out of the capital.

Rapid KL’s rail services will be extended by one hour during morning and evening peak hours from October 27 to 28.

Train frequency will also be increased on October 25 and 26 to accommodate the expected rise in passenger numbers.

Rapid KL will deploy additional trains should there be a passenger surge or operational requirements.

A total of 400 additional staff will be stationed at key stations to help facilitate commuter and ASEAN delegate movement.

Several bus and Rapid KL On-Demand routes are expected to experience delays due to road closures in the city centre.

Affected routes include Route 402 from LRT Titiwangsa to LRT Maluri and Route 302 from LRT Titiwangsa to KLCC.

Other impacted services are Route 300 from Pandan Indah Hub to Lebuh Ampang and Route 303 from Taman Mulia Jaya to Lebuh Ampang.

Rapid KL On-Demand services in Titiwangsa Zone to Chow Kit and CBD Zone will also experience disruptions.

Passengers heading to KLCC and nearby areas are advised to use rail services as an alternative.

Nearby stations include KLCC Station on the Kelana Jaya Line and Persiaran KLCC Station on the Putrajaya Line.

Other accessible stations are Raja Chulan Station on the KL Monorail, Conlay Station on the Putrajaya Line, and Bukit Bintang Station on the Kajang Line and KL Monorail.

The KLIA Ekspres will operate as usual with increased train frequency to ensure smooth travel for ASEAN Summit delegates and airport passengers.

An additional KLIA Transit train will be provided at 1 am from KLIA Terminal 2 to KL Sentral during the summit period.

The KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit schedules from October 22 to 28 have been updated to accommodate the expected passenger volume increase.

Rapid KL and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad have assured that all public transport assets and facilities are in good condition and fully prepared for the passenger surge.

The ministry urged city residents to make full use of public transport facilities to facilitate travel to key areas and help ease traffic flow during the summit period. – Bernama
