The National Food Security Bill is set to be tabled in Parliament next year after revisions and ongoing discussions on its implementation framework.
KLANG: The National Food Security Bill is expected to be tabled in Parliament next year following revisions and ongoing discussions on its implementation framework, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said.
He said the proposed legislation had been updated and was currently undergoing further deliberations by the government.
“We have revised it and discussions are still ongoing. We expect the bill to be tabled in Parliament next year,” he told reporters after launching the Road to Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-Tourism Show (MAHA) 2026 Central Zone programme here today.
Mohamad said discussions on the proposed law would continue and are scheduled to be chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister next year.
The proposed legislation is aimed at strengthening the country’s food security framework amid growing concerns over global supply disruptions, rising food prices and the need to enhance domestic food production.
Further details on the bill and its implementation mechanisms are expected to be finalised following the conclusion of discussions among relevant ministries and agencies.
