A teaser posted on the Seres Malaysia Facebook page hints that the Seres E5 Plus seven-seater PHEV SUV is about to be launched in Malaysia. If the brand does not sound familiar, you might be more familiar with its previous moniker, DFSK Motors.
Like most other cars from the middle kingdom, the E5 Plus goes by many names. Some may know it as the Landian/DFSK E5 Plus as well as being a sister model for the Aito M7 sans the Huawei tech side. Some of the sister brands under the Seres Group do partner with Huawei.
Apart from the teaser of the E5 Plus under covers with its DRLs illuminating through the fabric, details are non-existent. However, a quick browse online led us to Car News China and some figures that would be representative of the E5 Plus that reaches our shores.
Under the hood sits a 1.5-litre petrol engine with 95 PS that functions as a generator, feeding the electric motor that delivers 218 PS and 330 Nm of torque. All in, it is good for a century sprint time of 7.8 seconds and the top speed is 180 kph.
The latest facelift for the SUV came about in December 2025 and delivers a 230 km EV-range but under the ambitious CLTC cycle. For comparisons sake, its predecessor had 129 km of EV range and a combined 1,200 km, both under the WLTP cycle.
In terms of dimensions, the E5 Plus measures in with a footprint just under that of a Leapmotor C10, making it quite a sizeable SUV. Other features under its skin includes a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, frequency-selective damping, multi-link rear suspension and a 760-litre boot that grows to 1,694 litres with the third row folded.
Previously, Seres Malaysia introduced the Seres 3 here, an electric SUV with a similar size to the Proton X50. However, only 10 units were initially made available at an introductory price or RM 95,000. Perhaps the E5 Plus is a shift towards the brand being a high-volume player in the near future.
