GWM Haval unveils larger, more refined H6L SUV

Timothy Prakash

GWM’s Haval brand has officially revealed the new H6L, a larger and more premium take on its popular H6 SUV. Designed to sit above the standard H6, the petrol-powered H6L blends familiar styling with fresh design elements, updated technology, and expanded dimensions that push it closer to the midsize SUV segment.

Sharing its platform with the Xiaolong Max, the H6L retains the model’s sleek, modern proportions but introduces a number of subtle styling changes. The front now sports a reworked grille with a new mesh pattern and enlarged side air vents, giving the SUV a more confident and upright look.

Both the front and rear are defined by full-width light bars, with the illuminated “HAVAL” logo taking centre stage. Completing the design are black window trims, petal-style alloy wheels, and a cleaner rear bumper with hidden exhaust outlets.

The H6L stretches 4,800 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 1,730 mm in height, riding on a 2,810 mm wheelbase — dimensions that make it notably longer than the current H6 offered in Malaysia. This increase translates into more interior space and improved ride comfort, positioning the H6L as a more versatile option for families or long-distance travellers.

Inside, Haval has given the H6L a cabin that focuses on comfort, technology, and material quality. Buyers can choose from three interior colour themes — Autumn Brown-Beige, Exploration Black, or Canyon Brown — each designed to create a refined yet functional environment.

The dashboard is anchored by a 14.6-inch central touchscreen paired with a head-up display, while 64-colour ambient lighting adds to the premium atmosphere. Comfort is prioritised through features such as ventilated and massaging front seats, heated front and rear seats, and a heated steering wheel. The driver’s seat offers 8-way electric adjustment and 4-way lumbar support, while the rear seats recline up to 32 degrees or fold flat with the push of a button.

Haval has also equipped the cabin with double-layer laminated soundproof glass, a 10-speaker surround sound system, air purification, and voice control functionality. With 28 cleverly designed storage spaces, the H6L aims to combine practicality with a touch of luxury — ideal for long trips or daily use.

Under the bonnet, the H6L will be available with two petrol engines: a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit producing 181hp and a 2.0-litre turbocharged version with 235hp. Both are paired with automatic transmissions, offering a blend of performance and efficiency tailored for both city driving and highway cruising.

The arrival of the H6L also marks Haval’s return to its classic “H” series naming structure, a line long associated with the brand’s urban SUV models. The “L” in its name reflects its expanded dimensions, positioning it between compact and midsize SUV categories while replacing the petrol-powered Xiaolong Max.

Set to make its official debut in November 2025, the Haval H6L represents another key step in GWM’s strategy to refine and expand its SUV range.
