eGate glitch at Johor border disrupts foreign passport holders

Foreign passport holders face delays at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar as eGates malfunction, with travellers directed to manual counters for processing.

JOHOR BAHRU: A technical glitch in the eGate system at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) is disrupting clearance for foreign passport holders.

The BSI Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) confirmed the issue in a statement today, noting it only affects international travellers.

Malaysian citizens can continue to use the electronic gates as normal without interruption.

Foreign travellers are being redirected to Entry Bus Halls 19 to 22 and Exit Bus Halls 5 to 8 for manual processing and assistance.

“All zones are under control and traveller movement is proceeding smoothly,” the agency said.

AKPS and the Immigration Department are conducting repairs and closely monitoring the situation at the border crossing.

To alleviate congestion, foreign visitors are advised to use the MyNIISe app for QR code counters or proceed to manual counters.

The agency also urged all travellers to follow on-site instructions and give way to those requiring special assistance.

Earlier reports indicated tens of thousands of foreign nationals were stranded in queues, with waits extending up to two hours.

At least 39 entry and 29 exit autogates in the bus halls have been malfunctioning for several days.

Heavy weekend traffic today is believed to have contributed to the system’s failure.

In comparison, the Sultan Abu Bakar Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex (KSAB) operates 12 functioning autogates. – Bernama
