SAIC Motor Malaysia has announced a revised pricing structure for the MGS5 EV, aiming to make electric mobility more accessible while reinforcing the brand’s long-term confidence in Malaysia’s growing EV market. The move underscores MG’s focus on delivering value-driven, high-quality electric vehicles tailored to local drivers’ preferences.
Effective immediately, the MGS5 EV is priced at RM107,900 for the COM variant, RM117,900 for the COM Long Range, and RM127,900 for the range-topping LUX Long Range. Both the COM and LUX models are powered by a 170PS electric motor producing 250Nm of torque, driving the rear wheels — a setup that remains unique in its segment.
The COM variant gives buyers a choice between a 49kWh or 62kWh battery, offering up to 340km and 430km of WLTP range, respectively. The LUX Long Range, meanwhile, comes exclusively with the 62kWh battery and supports DC fast charging at up to 150kW, which can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in just 26 minutes. All models feature 7kW AC charging capability for convenient overnight charging.
The LUX variant distinguishes itself with several premium upgrades, including 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and leather-fabric seats embossed with perforated MG logos. Comfort and convenience are further enhanced with a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a heated leather steering wheel, a wireless phone charger, six premium speakers, a powered tailgate, and a 360-degree surround-view camera.
Both variants share MG’s distinctive exterior design elements, such as LED headlights with ‘Racing Flag’ daytime running lights and signature Arch Taillights featuring the same motif. Inside, the cabin is anchored by a 12.8-inch central touchscreen with voice command, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and MG’s iSMART connectivity suite. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, alongside Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality for powering external devices. The boot offers up to 1,441 litres of space, including an underfloor compartment, making it practical for family use.
The MGS5 EV’s packaging also benefits from an ultra-thin Horizontal Battery Layout, which optimises cabin space and lowers the centre of gravity for improved handling. Its adaptive pressure control system helps maintain battery integrity by reducing cell expansion, enhancing both safety and long-term durability.
Every variant of the MGS5 EV now includes the MG Ultimate Ownership Package, offering savings of up to RM10,000. Buyers can choose between a complimentary 7kW AC wallbox charger or equivalent charging credits. Those seeking tailored financial options can also opt for the MG Ultimate Financing Package, available through authorised MG dealers across Malaysia.
