Chery Automobile is gearing up to unveil its latest model under the new box-style SUV sub-brand, iCaur, with the official debut of the iCaur V27 scheduled for 21 November at the Guangzhou Auto Show. Known domestically in China as the iCar V27, the model adopts the “iCaur” name for international markets due to trademark considerations. Positioned above the smaller iCaur V23, the new V27 takes the lead as the brand’s largest and most advanced model, powered by a range-extender electric powertrain rather than a fully electric setup.
The iCaur V27 strikes a balance between modern sophistication and retro-inspired toughness. Its boxy silhouette, chunky bumpers, flared wheel arches, and rear-mounted spare tyre give it the kind of rugged, adventure-ready stance reminiscent of classic off-road icons.

Yet, the execution is thoroughly modern, with clean lines and thoughtful detailing that bring a premium, contemporary touch. Measuring 4,909 mm long, 1,976 mm wide, and 1,894 mm tall, and riding on a 2,910 mm wheelbase, the V27 falls into the mid-to-large SUV segment, suggesting ample cabin space and strong road presence.
Chery has yet to reveal the V27’s interior, but based on current information, higher-spec variants are expected to feature a lidar-based driver assistance system powered by Horizon Robotics chips, hinting at an advanced suite of semi-autonomous driving capabilities.
Under the skin, the SUV employs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that functions solely as a generator within the range-extender system. The engine does not drive the wheels directly; instead, propulsion is managed entirely by electric motors.
Customers will have the option of rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, with the latter producing a combined output of up to 449hp, making it one of the most powerful models in its class. On electric power alone, the V27 delivers an estimated 200 km of range (CLTC), while the total combined range surpasses 1,000 km, ensuring long-distance travel without the anxiety of frequent recharging.

Design-wise, Chery will offer buyers a choice between two distinct rear-end configurations — one featuring a traditional rear-mounted spare tyre, and another with a box-style storage module for added versatility. Customisation options are also expected to be extensive, including roof racks, privacy glass, segmented roof panels, and wheel sizes of up to 21 inches.
Despite its focus on technology and comfort, the iCaur V27 hasn’t forgotten its off-road roots. Built on a unibody platform, it has been described by Chery as a mid-large all-terrain SUV, designed to handle a mix of urban commuting and light off-roading with ease. Its upright proportions, short overhangs, and commanding stance suggest a solid degree of trail capability, even if it’s not a hardcore off-roader.

In China, the iCaur V27 is expected to be priced between 200,000 and 250,000 yuan (approximately RM132,000 to RM165,000), placing it within reach of those looking for an adventurous yet refined electrified SUV.
Production is expected to commence soon after its public debut in Guangzhou, marking a significant milestone for iCaur as it expands into larger, more capable range-extending SUVs. With its blend of electric innovation, long-range practicality, and rugged design, the iCaur V27 signals Chery’s continued push to combine style and substance for a new generation of electrified explorers.
