40 foreigners held in Kajang, Serdang scam call centre raids

Police arrest 40 foreign nationals in raids on four suspected scam call centres in Kajang and Serdang, seizing equipment worth RM46,000.

SHAH ALAM: Forty foreign nationals were arrested in separate raids at four residential premises believed to have been used as scam call centres in Kajang and Serdang between July 15 and 20.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the suspects, comprising 36 men and four women aged between 22 and 55, were believed to have worked as customer service operators for fake online shopping, fraudulent investment and love scam syndicates.

He said the raids on the four syndicates also resulted in the seizure of electronic equipment and other items worth RM46,000, including script documents believed to have been used on victims overseas.

“The application used for online shopping scams was sjifac.cn. Initial investigations also found that they received payments of up to RM3,000.

“Some of the suspects arrested had yet to receive any payment as they had only recently become involved in the syndicate. Background checks are also being conducted to determine whether any of them are highly educated,” he said.

He said this at a press conference on the successes of the Selangor Commercial Crime Investigation Department at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters here today.

Shazeli said initial checks found that the suspects had entered the country using tourist passes.

All the suspects are currently under remand, with the case being investigated under Sections 420 and 120B of the Penal Code.
