Thailand imposes curfew in second province after border clashes

Thailand enforces a curfew in five districts of Trat province after a grenade attack, following similar measures in Sa Kaeo due to border tensions

BANGKOK: Thailand’s military has imposed a curfew in parts of Trat province, the second such measure following recent border clashes.

An official order immediately enforced the curfew in five districts: Khlong Yai, Bo Rai, Laem Ngop, Khao Saming, and Mueang Trat.

Residents in these areas are prohibited from leaving their homes from 7pm to 5am the following day.

The announcement followed an incident on Saturday night when three M79 grenades were fired at a Marine Corps Task Force headquarters in Trat.

Thai media reported the projectiles are believed to have originated from within Thailand.

No casualties were reported as the grenades landed in an uninhabited area.

This marks the second province to impose a curfew since the latest round of Thailand-Cambodia border clashes erupted.

The Thai military had already placed a curfew in four border districts of Sa Kaeo province last Wednesday. – Bernama-Xinhua
