Flash floods hit several areas in Kuala Lumpur after heavy rain

Several parts of Kuala Lumpur were hit by flash floods following heavy rain, with water overflowing in multiple locations but no casualties reported

KUALA LUMPUR: Several areas in the federal capital were hit by flash floods this evening after about an hour of heavy rain.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 6.55 pm.

Operations commander Mohd Hafizan Hassan said 18 personnel from two fire stations were deployed to the affected locations.

He said the areas included Jalan Sentul Pasar in Taman Bahagia and Jalan Batu Bata in Titiwangsa Sentral.

Other affected spots were Jalan Haji Salleh in Sentul, Kampung Chubadak Dalam, and Batu 2½, Jalan Ipoh.

“The flooding was caused by overflowing water and has since fully receded,” he said in a statement.

Hafizan confirmed no casualties were reported and there was no damage to property.

Meanwhile, social media users shared videos and photographs showing several parts of the city centre inundated during the downpour.

Locations highlighted included areas around Bulatan Pahang, Jalan Tun Razak and near the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

Several major roads in the city centre were also reported to be heavily congested during the incident. – Bernama
