Youth and Sports Ministry launches PekaRasa campaign to engage five million youths and reduce bullying cases by 35% next year.
PUTRAJAYA: The Youth and Sports Ministry is targeting five million youths nationwide to participate in the PekaRasa Anti-Bullying Campaign: Henti Buli, Mula Peduli to raise awareness and foster a younger generation more empathetic and proactive in curbing bullying.
Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said youth participation is expected to reduce reported bullying cases, especially in schools and higher education institutions, by 35% next year.
“Based on records from previous years, bullying cases exceeded 7,000. We hope to reduce this figure next year, aiming for zero bullying in our country,” he told a press conference after launching the campaign here today.
The PekaRasa campaign is a national movement under the Rakan Muda initiative aimed at cultivating empathy, encouraging safe intervention, and instilling a sense of responsibility among the public, particularly youths, to combat bullying.
Mohammed Taufiq said the campaign will be rolled out monthly through roadshows to schools, higher education institutions, and the Jelajah Rakan Muda programme. The ministry will monitor its impact to ensure bullying cases decrease.
“We have also provided a crucial platform, namely antibuli.my, which can be accessed by everyone to seek consultation and express whatever they feel. This platform is confidential and accessible online,” he said.
He added that the platform provides guidance on early intervention steps, access to assistance, and support for individuals dealing with bullying.
“It is expected to serve as a one-stop reference centre, making it easier for the public to obtain verified information and encouraging early action to prevent and address bullying,” he said.
Mohammed Taufiq added that the platform will complement existing helplines such as Talian Kasih by acting as a referral system that routes complaints to relevant experts for appropriate action.
“As soon as a complaint is lodged, we will immediately forward it to Talian Kasih and relevant channels. They will directly contact the individual who is being bullied. As for consultation, solutions, and so on, we naturally require the cooperation of other ministries that already have their respective platforms in place,” he said.
