Kelantan residents can apply for gold panning licences from Jan 1, 2026, with activities restricted to four gazetted districts using manual methods.
KOTA BHARU: Residents of Kelantan interested in gold panning can begin submitting applications for licences starting tomorrow.
Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan (pic) said applications will be accepted at the State Land and Mines Office (PTG) and district land offices from January 1, 2026.
“There is currently no cap on the number of applications and manual forms are available at the PTG or district land offices,” he told reporters after a state executive council meeting.
He said applications will be processed and approved within a specified period, subject to stipulated conditions.
Mohamed Fadzli said demand is expected to be encouraging based on feedback received via social media.
He added that the PTG is prepared to manage the application process.
The deputy menteri besar said buyers of gold are required to obtain state government approval for transactions involving the precious mineral.
He said the PTG will soon gazette gold panning areas in four identified districts.
The districts are Gua Musang, Jeli, Tanah Merah and Kuala Krai.
Other areas with potential resources will also be identified and assessed from time to time.
Mohamed Fadzli noted that only Kelantan residents using manual panning methods are eligible.
Activities are permitted solely in gazetted areas and during office hours.
