155 Hindu temples receive RM3.1 million in first phase of Dharma MADANI

The government allocates RM3.1 million to 155 Hindu temples under the Dharma MADANI programme’s first phase, with RM20 million total aid planned.

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 155 Hindu temples nationwide will benefit from a RM3.1 million allocation under the first phase of the Dharma MADANI programme.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the initiative is a continuous government effort to empower places of worship as community centres.

“These community centres will serve as platforms for uniting the community, fostering positive values, and strengthening grassroots social support networks,” he said at a ceremony here.

The programme ultimately aims to involve 1,000 registered Hindu temples with a total allocation of RM20 million.

Each eligible place of worship will receive a one-off financial assistance of RM20,000.

Since registration opened, 915 applications have been received and are under review by the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA).

The remaining applications will be considered in subsequent approval phases, with official decisions communicated to the temples involved.

Ramanan urged temple chairpersons to utilise the allocated funds responsibly and adhere to good governance principles.

“I also hope that temple administrators will implement community programmes transparently and with integrity,” he added.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the Dharma MADANI Programme last August.

The initiative to provide one-off aid to temples is being carried out under MITRA supervision.
