Anwar calls for inclusive social protection to benefit all Malaysians

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stresses the need for inclusive social protection programmes covering all segments of society and essential services.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasised that social protection programmes must be implemented inclusively to cover the entire nation and all segments of society.

He said an inclusive approach must encompass essential services like rehabilitation centres and a review of related laws to accelerate implementation.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, stated this after chairing the 9th Meeting of the Malaysia Social Protection Council.

The meeting aimed to strengthen policy coordination for the national social protection agenda.

It also noted improvements to the PADU system driven by the Economy Ministry.

Presentations were made by SOCSO, the World Bank and the Economy Ministry to enhance the social protection ecosystem.

Anwar congratulated SOCSO on its reappointment as President of the International Social Security Association for the 2026–2028 term.

He described the reappointment as significant global recognition for Malaysia.

The Prime Minister also welcomed the publication of the Malaysia Social Protection Statistics 2024.

He said it is an important reference for improving policy delivery effectiveness nationwide.

In a separate engagement, Anwar attended a briefing on the Malaysia Higher Education Plan (2026–2035).

He said the long-term framework will strengthen the direction of the nation’s higher education sector.

As a living document, the plan will evolve with the rapid emergence of new technologies.

Anwar stated it will drive societal transformation through an interdisciplinary and mission-oriented research approach.

The goal is a harmonious, prosperous, technologically advanced and sustainable nation.

“This blueprint is a crucial foundation to ensure that our higher education system becomes more inclusive, of higher quality and competitive,” he said.

It aims to produce future generations prepared to face continuous challenges.
