Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim begins Penang working visit, officiates Juru-Sungai Dua traffic project to benefit 200,000 daily users.
GEORGE TOWN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim commenced a one-day working visit to Penang today, officiating the groundbreaking for the Juru-Sungai Dua Traffic Dispersal Project (PTJSD).
The RM1.2 billion project is expected to alleviate congestion for approximately 200,000 daily users along the critical route.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, launched the project at the Seberang Jaya Expo Site in Bukit Mertajam.
PTJSD was a key northern region initiative announced by the Prime Minister during the tabling of Budget 2025 last October.
Other major Penang projects highlighted in the budget include the Penang Light Rail Transit, Penang International Airport expansion, and Batu Kawan Industrial Park 3.
Following the ceremony, Anwar visited the Karyawan Nordin Ahmad Gallery at SK Permatang Pasir.
He later officiated the MADANI Arowana Mosque in his parliamentary constituency of Permatang Pauh.
The Prime Minister also attended the ‘Komunivesiti Kolaboratif’ programme in his hometown of Kampung Cherok Tok Kun.
His itinerary concluded with the launch of the Seberang Perai Urban Transformation Centre at Penang Sentral in Butterworth.
This marks Malaysia’s 24th UTC and the second facility in Penang after the Komtar UTC.
The Seberang Perai UTC was another Budget 2025 initiative designed to enhance urban public services.
Anwar arrived at Penang International Airport last night, welcomed by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and state officials. – Bernama
