Police officer injured in attack at Johor police station

A police officer in Iskandar Puteri sustained injuries after being attacked by a man at the Mutiara Rini police station counter.

ISKANDAR PUTERI: A police officer sustained injuries after being attacked by a man at a police station here.

The 22-year-old suspect threw a motorcycle rim and punched the officer on duty at the complaints counter at the Mutiara Rini police station.

Iskandar Puteri district police chief ACP M Kumarasan (pic) said his team received information about the incident at about 3.40 pm.

The suspect was apprehended after a struggle with the police.

“As a result of the incident, the officer who was attacked sustained bruises on his right eye and shoulder, as well as a swelling on his left leg,” Kumarasan said in a statement.

He said the suspect, who appeared to be mentally unstable, has no prior criminal record.

The man has been referred to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for further examination and treatment.

Police seized a crossbody bag containing a knife and a motorcycle rim.

The case is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code, Section 90 of the Police Act 1967, and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive, Explosive and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.
