Anwar Ibrahim says Malaysia stands with Türkiye after a reported missile threat, warning escalating tensions in West Asia could trigger prolonged regional instability.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia has conveyed its solidarity with Türkiye after a ballistic missile was reportedly headed towards the country’s airspace, a sign of the increasingly fragile security situation in West Asia, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In a statement today, he said he had spoken with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan last night to exchange views on the increasingly grave developments in the region following a series of attacks that threaten its stability.

“On the assassination of several senior Iranian leaders, including the late Ali Khamenei, I stressed that such developments risk pushing West Asia into a period of serious and prolonged instability.

“We were in agreement that all parties must exercise the utmost restraint and wisdom to prevent the situation from further deteriorating,” he said.

On Palestine, Anwar said he expressed appreciation to Türkiye and several other countries that have condemned Israel’s decision to expand illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.

“Malaysia’s position is clear that such actions by the Zionist regime constitute a violation of international law,” he added.
