Cambodian and Thai PMs commit to peaceful resolution under Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord, with Malaysia continuing facilitator role.
KUALA LUMPUR: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai counterpart Anutin Charnvirakul have reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful resolution under the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he received positive feedback from both leaders during phone discussions about border peace efforts.
“I reiterated Malaysia’s stance to see the friendship and ceasefire between the two countries be strengthened,” Anwar stated in a Facebook post.
He emphasized Malaysia’s readiness to continue facilitating the path toward peace in the region.
Both prime ministers expressed appreciation for Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair and regional peace partner.
“May both countries continue to show determination and courage to restore stability along their borders,” Anwar added.
Hun Manet and Anutin Charnvirakul signed the peace accord during the 47th ASEAN Summit on October 26.
The agreement was witnessed by Anwar and United States President Donald Trump.
Under the accord, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to end hostilities and foster good neighbourly relations. – Bernama
