A lawyer suspected of smuggling drugs into Marang Prison has his remand extended by four days as police continue their investigation under Section 39B
KUALA BERANG: A lawyer suspected of conspiring to smuggle drugs into Marang Prison has had his remand extended for a further four days.
Magistrate Nur Athirah Hashim issued the order to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The 32-year-old suspect was brought to the Kuala Berang Magistrate’s Court under police escort.
He is believed to have smuggled drugs, including yaba pills, cannabis and Erimin 5, worth RM16,000 into the prison on December 23.
The incident occurred after proceedings concluded at the Kuala Terengganu High Court, where the suspect was the lawyer for an inmate involved in the case.
He was later arrested on December 29 along Jalan Hiliran near Pulau Kambing in Kuala Terengganu.
Police are also seeking a 30-year-old housewife, Nurul Norasikin Aladin, to assist with the investigation.
