KUALA LUMPUR: A mechanic was sentenced to three years in prison and one stroke of the cane by the Sessions Court here today.
Mohamad Hasrul Aiman Mohd Hanapi, 24, pleaded guilty to robbing an Indonesian woman last month.
The court heard he robbed the 33-year-old victim of two mobile phones and RM1,000 in cash.
The offence occurred at a cafe on Jalan Langkawi, Setapak, at 3.32 pm on November 5.
Judge Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin ordered the sentence to run from the date of his arrest on December 21.
The charge was framed under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum 20-year jail term.
Deputy public prosecutor Wafa Zainal Abidin requested a deterrent sentence to serve as a lesson.
The unrepresented accused appealed for leniency, citing his responsibility to support his family.
In a related case at the same court, soldier Muhammad Hairul Andika Amir, 30, pleaded not guilty.
He is accused of robbing the same victim at the same location, time, and date.
The court denied him bail and set January 22, 2026, for the next case mention.
