The 2027 SEA Games organising committee confirms all 17 sports in the Sarawak cluster will be staged in Kuching city due to logistical and facility requirements
ALL 17 sporting events for the Sarawak cluster of the 2027 SEA Games will be held in Kuching city.
Sarawak Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah (pic) said the decision was made by the 2027 SEA Games Organising Committee.
He said the regional scale of the games required consideration of factors like logistics, accommodation, connectivity and international-class facilities.
“If it is a national-level sport, of course any other city in Sarawak can be involved,” he told Bernama.
Malaysia will host the 2027 SEA Games from September 18 to 29 across four main clusters: Sarawak, Penang, Johor and Kuala Lumpur.
The Sarawak cluster will host the opening ceremony and feature 17 sports.
These include aquatics, weightlifting, basketball, bowling, field bowling and e-sports.
Other sports are gymnastics, golf, cricket, archery, shooting and muay thai.
The final events are petanque, squash, taekwondo, tennis and wushu.
