“Acting on this information, police conducted detailed investigations and arrested the suspect, who is also the operator or instructor of the madrasah in question, to assist with enquiries,” Kasim said.

The investigation papers were submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers on 17 December. Following instructions received, the suspect was charged in court on 22 December under Section 323 of the Penal Code, facing 13 separate charges related to causing injury.

Kasim emphasised that authorities view any form of violence seriously, particularly cases involving children.

“In this regard, firm action will be taken in accordance with existing laws,” he stated.

The police chief also advised members of the public not to engage in speculation or spread unverified information, and to respect the legal process and privacy of all parties involved, especially the victims.

Kasim provided assurance that the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters will investigate every case professionally, transparently, and in accordance with the law for the sake of justice and public order.

The case has drawn significant attention on social media, with many expressing concern over the welfare of children in educational institutions. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable students and maintaining proper standards of care in all learning environments.

All 13 charges relate to separate instances of causing injury to students under his care. The Sessions Court proceedings will determine the outcome of these serious allegations.
