Two men, Wong Mun Fai and Tan Chun How, sentenced to 18 years in prison for causing death in a Teluk Intan oil palm plantation in 2018
IPOH: Two friends were each sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to causing the death of a man in an oil palm plantation in Teluk Intan seven years ago.
Judge Datuk Bhupindar Singh Gurcharan Singh Preet ordered Wong Mun Fai and Tan Chun How, both aged 33, to serve their prison sentence from the date of their arrest on November 15, 2018.
They had previously pleaded not guilty to a murder charge in 2018, but changed their pleas to guilty under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence.
The two men were jointly charged with causing the death of Heng Wei Yong, 21, at the entrance to an oil palm plantation near Jalan Kampung Banjar, Teluk Intan, between 12.05 am and 12.30 am on November 15, 2018.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani, while lawyers Datuk Naran Singh and Amrick Singh Sandu represented Wong, and Tan was represented by lawyer V. Santhiran. – Bernama
