Police arrest five 17-year-old motorcyclists after their dangerous riding and obstruction of an ambulance on the North-South Expressway went viral.
IPOH: Police have detained five teenage motorcyclists for dangerous riding and obstructing an ambulance on the North-South Expressway.
The incident occurred on October 19 around 3.15 pm near Kuala Kangsar when a Ministry of Health ambulance was responding to an accident.
Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the group obstructed the emergency vehicle’s path at KM 249 southbound.
Following viral social media footage, enforcement teams tracked the suspects in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
All five 17-year-olds were arrested along with their motorcycles between 3 pm and 9 pm yesterday.
They were brought to Kuala Kangsar Magistrate’s Court today for remand procedures.
The court granted a two-day remand until October 29 to assist investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Noor Hisam said police view the incident seriously as it involves road user safety.
“The police urge the public to be more vigilant and to channel as much information as possible regarding incidents that violate road laws for personal pleasure, to ensure the safety of other road users is guaranteed,” he said.
Firm action will be taken against offenders to serve as a lesson to other road users. – Bernama
