Immigration raid uncovers drug den at Port Klang apartment

Selangor Immigration Department finds drug paraphernalia and detains 95 foreigners for immigration offences during Port Klang operation.

PORT KLANG: Immigration officers uncovered a drug den operated by foreign nationals during a raid at a local apartment complex.

The Selangor Immigration Department discovered the operation on the building’s ninth floor yesterday evening.

Deputy director-general Datuk Lokman Effendi Ramli said officers noticed a foreign man attempting to dispose of a small bag suspiciously.

Further inspection revealed the bag contained several modified items believed to be used for smoking syabu.

“The unit was occupied by three foreign nationals, a married couple and another woman,” he told reporters after the operation.

Lokman Effendi confirmed the case will be handed over to police for further investigation.

The three-and-a-half-hour operation began at 8.30 pm and involved 78 immigration officers and personnel.

Authorities inspected 285 foreign nationals during the targeted enforcement action.

Ninety-five individuals were detained for various immigration offences including overstaying and lacking valid identification documents.

All detainees, comprising 70 men and 25 women aged between 18 and 50, will be placed at the Semenyih Immigration Depot for investigation. – Bernama
