Injured woman in Simpang Ampat attack in stable condition

A Myanmar national injured in a Simpang Ampat attack that killed her husband is in stable condition, with three suspects remanded.

NIBONG TEBAL: A Myanmar national who was injured after being attacked by a compatriot in an incident that also claimed the life of her husband at a house in Taman Belibis, Simpang Ampat here yesterday, is reported to be in stable condition.

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the 26-year-old woman, who suffered a stab wound to the abdomen in the incident, was admitted to the Seberang Jaya Hospital.

“Further investigations are ongoing and the three suspects, including two women who were arrested to assist in the investigation, have been remanded for seven days until June 7,” he told Bernama when contacted today.

It is understood that the two women, who are also Myanmar nationals and in their 20s and 30s, are the wife and sister-in-law of the male suspect arrested in connection with the incident.

The suspect’s sister-in-law is believed to have been living in the same house as the deceased and his wife, while the main suspect and his wife lived in another house nearby.

The 31-year-old man who was killed in the incident was believed to be the uncle of the 38-year-old suspect.

In the incident, a Myanmar man was reported dead while his wife was injured after they were attacked by a fellow national in Taman Belibis here yesterday.

In the incident at about 3.20 pm, the 31-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining stab wounds to several parts of his body.

Following the incident, police arrested a man and two women to assist in investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon.
