Kedah Immigration detains 22 foreigners in a joint operation across eight locations in the Kuala Muda district for various offences.

SUNGAI PETANI: The Kedah Immigration Department (JIM) detained 22 illegal immigrants in a joint operation conducted at eight locations in the Kuala Muda district yesterday.

The Kedah JIM in a statement said the operation, which started at 10 am, was carried out through Ops Bersepadu, Ops Gegar, Ops Sapu, and Ops Selera based on intelligence and public information.

According to the statement, the operation involved 12 officers from the Enforcement Division of the Kedah JIM in collaboration with four officers from the Kedah branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

“A total of eight premises were inspected involving 76 individuals, consisting of 52 Malaysian citizens and 24 foreign nationals.

“In the inspection, 22 foreigners aged between 18 and 45 years were detained on suspicion of committing various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963,” said the statement.

The Kedah JIM said that among the detected offences were not possessing a valid pass or travel document, overstaying in Malaysia, and violating the conditions of the pass issued by the Malaysian Immigration Department.

“Those who were detained comprised 15 Myanmar nationals, four Indonesian nationals, two Bangladeshis, and one Thai national.

“In addition to the arrests made, seven Imm.29 Forms (Summons to Witness) were also issued to assist in further investigations,” according to the statement.

All detained foreigners were taken to the Belantik Immigration Depot for documentation and investigation purposes before further action is taken in accordance with the applicable laws.
