Kelantan police bust drug syndicate, seize RM1.82 million in cannabis

Kelantan police dismantle a drug syndicate, arresting three men and seizing 52kg of cannabis worth RM1.82 million in Kuala Krai operations.

KOTA BHARU: Kelantan police have dismantled a drug syndicate and seized cannabis buds worth RM1.82 million.

Three men were arrested in Kuala Krai on January 3 during raids under Ops Agas.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the operations followed a four-month intelligence probe.

The first raid along Jalan Kota Bharu–Gua Musang led to the arrest of a 32-year-old suspect after his car collided with a police vehicle.

A search of his Proton Exora uncovered 320 plastic packages containing 52kg of cannabis buds.

A second raid in Taman Sri Guchil resulted in the arrest of two more suspects, aged 40 and 50, who were in a Perodua Myvi.

The seized drugs have an estimated street value of RM1.82 million.

Two impounded vehicles worth about RM100,000 bring the total seizure value to RM1.92 million.

All three suspects have been remanded from January 3 to 16.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

Initial checks found the first suspect tested positive for ketamine and had nine prior criminal records.

The second suspect had six prior criminal records.

Police believe the syndicate has been active since September 2024 and is masterminded by a woman in her 30s based in Thailand.

Authorities are working with Thai counterparts to locate her, as she is suspected of holding dual citizenship
