Man kills grandmother, injures great-grandmother in Baling

A 21-year-old man with an intellectual disability has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his 65-year-old grandmother to death and injuring her 80-year-old mother.

BALING: A 65-year-old woman was killed and her 80-year-old mother injured after an attack by the younger woman’s grandson.

The incident occurred at Kampung Baru Bakai, Malau yesterday evening.

Baling police chief Supt Brandon Richard Joe said the Malau police station received a public report about the incident at 7 pm.

“The suspect, a 21-year-old man with an intellectual disability, was brought to the police station by members of the public, and he was detained at 7.50 pm to assist in the investigation,” he said in a statement today.

He confirmed the suspect has no prior criminal record.

“The suspect admitted to stabbing his grandmother and great-grandmother at the scene,” Brandon added.

The body of the deceased victim was sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for a post-mortem.

The injured 80-year-old victim was taken to Kulim Hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The suspect will be brought to the Baling Sessions Court today for a remand application.
