A Mercedes-Benz driver is detained after a head-on collision in Bentong killed a married couple and seriously injured their son
BENTONG: Police have detained a man to assist in the investigation into a fatal three-vehicle crash that claimed the lives of a married couple.
Pahang deputy police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said the 40-year-old Mercedes-Benz driver will be remanded under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Initial investigations indicate the Mercedes-Benz was travelling from Bentong towards Kuala Lumpur.
It is believed to have veered into the opposite lane at a bend and collided head-on with an oncoming Proton Saga Iswara.
The Mercedes-Benz then lost control and hit a Honda Civic on the side of the road.
The impact killed the two passengers in the Proton Saga, a husband and wife both aged 51, at the scene.
Their son, who was driving the Proton Saga, sustained serious head injuries.
He was taken to Bentong Hospital before being referred to Temerloh Hospital for further treatment.
The Mercedes-Benz driver did not sustain serious injuries, and the Honda Civic driver escaped unhurt.
Azry Akmar said the suspect’s urine test returned negative, with a blood sample taken for toxicology analysis.
The fatal accident occurred yesterday at KM4 Kampung Ketari, Bentong. – Bernama
