Missing couple found dead in Rompin river

Husband and wife found drowned inside their car after it plunged into the Rompin River.

KUANTAN: A husband and wife who were reported missing yesterday after the car they were traveling in plunged into the Rompin River near Kampung Rantau Panjang, Kuala Rompin, were found drowned today.

Rompin District Police Chief Supt Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said the bodies of the lorry driver, Mohd Zairil Bidin, 40, and his wife, a housewife, Aisyah Shafie, 55, were found inside the car around 3 pm.

He said the car was located by the Search and Rescue (SAR) team at the bottom of the Rompin River, approximately 59 meters from the site where the vehicle was reported to have fallen.

“The vehicle was retrieved using a crane before the victims’ bodies were found inside the car,” he said in a statement today adding that the bodies of Mohd Zairil and Aisyah were taken to Rompin Hospital for a post-mortem.

He added that today’s operation, which involved the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), the Civil Defence Force (APM), and local villagers, was concluded at 3:11 pm.
