Police bust ‘Geng Boy Arau’ after chase and shootout

Police in Perlis arrest four, including a woman, after a dramatic chase and shootout, solving multiple housebreaking and car theft cases.

ARAU: Police have dismantled a criminal gang known as ‘Geng Boy Arau’ with the arrest of four individuals, including a woman, linked to a series of housebreakings and a car theft.

The suspects, aged between 28 and 47, were detained in Alor Setar, Kedah, and around the Arau district over the past two days.

The alleged 47-year-old mastermind, a cafe worker at a public university in Arau, was finally apprehended at Jalan Santan, Kangar, around noon today.

He had initially evaded capture last night after a dramatic confrontation with police.

The operation began with the arrest of a male suspect in Alor Setar at 7:50 pm yesterday.

This led police to raid the university cafe at 10:30 pm, where the mastermind was not present.

As officers were preparing to leave, the suspect suddenly drove into the cafe area in a Perodua Alza.

“When police moved in to intercept the vehicle, the suspect turned aggressive and attempted to ram them,” said Arau District Police Chief, Supt Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi.

Officers were forced to fire several shots in self-defence at the vehicle’s front tyres.

Despite a blown tyre, the suspect managed to drive another four kilometres to Taman Bersatu before the vehicle finally ground to a halt.

One man was detained from the car, but the mastermind escaped into nearby undergrowth.

Investigations revealed one detainee, a 31-year-old woman, is the wife of the cafe worker.

A search of their Kangar home uncovered several items believed to be stolen property.

The mastermind has 12 prior records for drug offences and 12 other criminal records.

The arrests have solved multiple cases reported between January 25 and February 2, involving total losses estimated at RM30,000.

Three suspects have been remanded for up to seven days, while the mastermind is set to be remanded tomorrow.

The case is being investigated for attempted murder, obstructing a public servant, housebreaking, and motor vehicle theft.
