A police officer is remanded for four days on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes totalling about RM27,000 from two company owners.
GEORGE TOWN: A police officer has been remanded on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes totalling approximately RM27,000.
The officer allegedly accepted the money in exchange for not taking action against two company owners involved in various legal offences.
The offences reportedly involved entertainment centres, massage parlours, and illegal gambling operations.

A four-day remand order until January 16 was issued by Magistrate Nadratun Naim Mohd Saidi at the Magistrate’s Court here.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) applied for the remand order today.
Sources indicate the male suspect, in his 50s, was arrested at about 10.40 pm yesterday.
He was detained when he appeared to give a statement at the Penang MACC office.
Initial investigations suggest the acts occurred between 2016 and 2021.
The suspect allegedly accepted monthly bribes ranging from RM500 to RM2,000 during that period.
He is suspected of receiving bribes via online money transfers to third-party accounts.
The payments allegedly came from the owner of a licensed money lending company and a health services company owner.
Penang MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest when contacted.
He stated the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. – Bernama
