Perak police seize 57 motorcycles, arrest one suspect linked to theft during integrated operation along Jalan Jelapang-Silibin.

IPOH: Police seized 57 motorcycles during an integrated motorcycle operation along Jalan Jelapang-Silibin last night.

Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the motorcycles were seized for offences under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333).

He said the nearly 12-hour operation, which began at midnight, involved the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the Department of Environment (DOE) and the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK).

“A local man was also arrested for reckless and dangerous riding under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Throughout the operation, a total of 157 motorcycles and 199 individuals aged between 14 and 45 were inspected, the majority of whom were secondary school students as well as students from public and private institutions,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Alwi said 306 traffic summonses and four DOE compounds and notices were issued for various offences.

Five individuals were also detained after testing positive for methamphetamine, THC and morphine.

“Police also arrested a local man suspected of being involved in a motorcycle theft case linked to a report lodged in Guar Cempedak under Section 379A of the Penal Code.

“The Perak police contingent will continue to carry out integrated operations to further strengthen enforcement action against road thugs in the state.

“This is one of our efforts to reduce road accidents while also helping to curb street crime,” he said.
