Remisier loses RM471,100 in fake Facebook investment syndicate

A bank remisier was cheated of RM471,100 after investing in a non-existent syndicate advertised on Facebook, police in Kedah confirmed

ALOR SETAR: A bank remisier lost RM471,100 after falling victim to a fraudulent investment syndicate advertised on Facebook.

Kedah Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Superintendent Loi Yew Lik said a report was lodged at the Kulim District Police Headquarters yesterday.

The victim saw the investment advertisement on September 16, which was offered by a company named CMIA Capital Partners.

“The complainant was convinced by screenshots of profits and testimonials and was told the investment was guaranteed and risk-free,” Loi said in a statement today.

The victim then contacted an individual named Cheryl, a purported company representative, via WhatsApp.

The complainant subsequently made 14 payment transactions totalling RM471,100 into a CIMB account under the name CH Keystone starting October 29.

The victim initially received a return of RM21,100.

The suspect later gave various excuses and requested additional payments.

The complainant grew suspicious after the suspect stopped responding to messages.

“Investigations found the phone number used by the suspect was fake and not used by CMIA Capital Partners,” Loi confirmed.

He advised the public to be vigilant against investments promising lucrative returns.

Checks should be made with the Securities Commission Malaysia or Bank Negara Malaysia to verify an investment entity’s authenticity before proceeding. – Bernama
