Selangor MMEA detained two Indonesian fishing boats and 10 crew for illegal fishing in Malaysian waters near Pulau Pintu Gedong, Klang.
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has detained two foreign fishing vessels and 10 individuals for illegal fishing in Malaysian waters.
The vessels were intercepted during operational patrols near Pulau Pintu Gedong, Klang yesterday morning.
Selangor Maritime Director Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh said the boats were detained at approximately 11 am and 11:30 am.
The arrests occurred about 12.7 nautical miles from the mainland during Op Ehsan, Op Murni, and Op Tiris patrols.
Initial inspections revealed each vessel was operated by one skipper with four crew members aged between 29 and 62.
“Further inspection revealed that both boats originated from Indonesia and all the crew did not possess valid identification documents,” Abdul Muhaimin stated.
The detained boats and crew were transported to the Marine Police Force Jetty at Pulau Indah.
They were subsequently handed over to the Selangor State Maritime investigating officer for further action.
The case is being investigated under the Fisheries Act 1985 for unauthorized fishing in Malaysian waters.
Additional investigations are underway under the Immigration Act 1959/63 for lacking valid identification documents. – Bernama
