Seven officers remanded in foreign worker bribery investigation

Seven enforcement officers remanded for alleged bribery in Labour Recalibration Programme, with RM116,000 cash and assets seized in MACC operation

PUTRAJAYA: Seven enforcement agency officers have been remanded for three days to assist investigations into alleged bribery involving foreign worker legalisation applications.

The remand order issued by Magistrate Izra Zulaikha Rohanuddin will run until November 15 following a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission application.

Sources revealed the suspects comprise four men and three women aged between 30 and 50.

They were arrested at several Klang Valley locations during Operation Bleach conducted by the MACC Intelligence Division.

“All suspects are believed to have accepted bribes for expediting applications from undocumented immigrants,” the sources said.

The operation targets undocumented immigrants seeking legal status through the Labour Recalibration Programme.

Operation Bleach follows earlier MACC operations called Operation Rentas and Operation Dygo.

Investigators seized more than RM116,000 in cash during the arrests.

Authorities also confiscated 14 telecommunications devices, jewellery, gold bars, three cars and two motorcycles.

These assets are believed to have been obtained through corrupt activities.

The MACC initially arrested 11 individuals during the operation.

Four suspects were released on MACC bail after their statements were recorded.

MACC Intelligence Division senior director Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin confirmed the remand when contacted.

The case is being investigated under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009. – Bernama
